I really enjoy the posts on theDailyWTF.com and would advise all programmers to read it, unless you’re a complete clot it will give you quite the ego boost because all code the posted there is from live, real world, systems and just about always you find yourself saying "Jeebus even I know that’s a retarded idea". Having said that, if you ever find yourself saying "hmm, can’t see what’s wrong with that, that’s how I’d do it too" … worry, worry a LOT!

Anyhow, I was extracting a file this afternoon with Stuffit Expander and saw this:

WTF

You’ll be happy to know it only took 2 mins to expand rather than over 2,000,000 years as the dialog suggests!

One of my proudest moments

OK, the title may be a bit of an exaduration but I was none the less
very chuffed with one line in a review of a conference paper of mine
that was accepted this week. One of the core tenets of all the work
done for the VTIE project has been that everything we do should be
available to everyone so nothing we do should ever be dependent on
proprietary software. We always take some time in our papers to explain
this policy and the reasons behind it so it’s really nice when a
reviewer comments "Good comments about interoperability and proprietory,vs. open source, systems.". Good to see we’re getting the message across!
